I am Somebody
I have always had a “song in my heart” for Stephanie and so many others – autistic, the homeless, people who are bullied or ridiculed for whatever reason. I just felt the need to be able to capture in words and a melody how it must feel to be different and yearn for inclusion. Then one night, that song came to life. I was on set at QVC waiting to go on air with new host, Jonathan Redford, who, besides being a great host, is a gifted musician. I recall it went down something like this:
Me: “You know, we should really collabrate on a song together for autism. I love your music and I could use a melody for my song.”
Jonathan: “Send me the words and I will put them to music.”
Days later, “I am Somebody” was born.
When I wrote the words to this song, I imagined myself as Stephanie. What would she say if she could speak?
